US-backed SDF says it seized two major Syrian gas fields

AMMAN, Sept 23 (KUNA) -- The US-backed Syrian Democratic forces, an alliance of predominantly Kurdish and Arab militias, said Saturday that they have taken control (SDF) of two key gas fields in the eastern suburbs of Syria's Deir Al-Zor province.
SDF forces claimed the Al-Azba and Conico gas fields after they closed in on the so-called Islamic State (IS) fighters, read a statement carried by Shaam News Network.
SDF fighters are marching on the east bank of the Euphrates River in their bid to tighten the noose on IS fighters in the area.
Meanwhile, activists reported that IS fighters have blown up all oil wells adjacent to the Conico gas field in the eastern Syrian city. (end) tk.nam
