Referendum council denies reports on cancelling voting

BAGHDAD, Sept 23 (KUNA) -- The referendum supreme council in Iraq's Kurdistan announced on Saturday that the voting would be held as scheduled on Monday.
The council denied reports that turned viral as a result of posting by Bafel Talabani, who it described as member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan party.
His posting fueled rumors claiming that the PUK and Democratic Party of Kurdistan approved an alternative package deal proposed by the US, Britain and France, thus the scheduled referendum would not be held.
"This report is baseless and false," the official statement said, re-affirming that it be would held as due.
The Kurdish leadership in Iraq has recently rejected numerous proposals by the UN, super and influential powers to cancel the referendum. (pickup previous) sbr.rk
