ISLAMABAD, Sept 9 (KUNA) -- Ambassador of Myanmar, U. Win Myint was summoned at Pakistan Foreign Office in federal capital Islamabad on Saturday and received a strong protest of the Government and people of Pakistan at the ongoing violence against Rohingya Muslims.
Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua stressed need for effective measures to prevent the recurrence of such violence, providing security to Rohingya Muslims and upholding their rights to live and move without fear and discriminations, the Foreign Office said in a statement.
She asked Myanmar government for urgent investigations into the recent violence against Rohingya Muslims and holding accountable those involved in these serious crimes.
The Ambassador assured the Foreign Secretary to convey Pakistan's concerns to the Myanmar Government, said Foreign Office.
Tens of thousands of Rohingya Muslims have fled to neighboring countries fearing from assaults from militants, triggering outrage among Muslim countries. (end)
