Syrian gov't forces, allies break IS siege on Deir Ezzor military airport

AMMAN, Sept 9 (KUNA) -- Syrian government army forces and their allied troops broke the siege imposed by so-called Islamic State (IS) on Deir Ezzor military airport, an army source said Saturday.
IS militants fled from the airport area and left their weapons and equipment behind, the source was quoted by the official Syrian TV as saying.
The Syrian regime forces and their allies also regained control of Maqaber area, south of Deir Ezzor city.
Official SANA news agency said people in Deir Ezzor were celebrating in the streets following the liberation of the airport. (end) tk.bs
