N. Korea fires ballistic missile over Japan

TOKYO, Aug 29 (KUNA) -- North Korea fired a ballistic missile from its west coast early Tuesday that flew over Japan before falling into the Pacific Ocean, the Japanese government said.
The missile fell into the sea 1,180 km east of Japan's Cape Erimo, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said.
It flew more than 2,700 km at a maximum altitude of around 550 km, according to the top government spokesman. Suga also said the missile likely broke into three before falling into the sea, adding that there were no immediate reports of damage to vessels or aircraft navigating in the area.
It was the fifth time that the North has sent a missile over Japan. It last launched a long-range Taepodong-2 missile over the country in February last year.
Tuesday's incident came after Pyongyang threatened earlier this month to attack the US Pacific territory of Guam with ballistic missiles which would fly over the Japanese archipelago. (end) mk.ag
