Japan imposes additional sanctions against N. Korea

TOKYO, Aug 25 (KUNA) - The Japanese government decided on Friday to impose fresh unilateral sanctions on North Korea, in line with similar sanctions adopted by the US earlier this week a top government spokesman announced.
Under the new measures, approved by the Cabinet, Japan will freeze the assets of six more entities -- four Chinese firms and two Namibian firms -- and two more individuals related to financial services and trade in coal and other minerals.
All the additional targets of the sanctions are included in the sanctions list which the US announced on Tuesday.
"North Korea has repeated provocations. It is extremely important to keep pressuring North Korea in coordination with US, South Korea and other countries," Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga told a press conference.
"We strongly urge North Korea to take concrete action towards denuclearization," Suga added.
According to the Foreign Ministry, with the additional plan, Japan now designates a total of 72 entities and 81 individuals in its North Korea-linked sanction list.
Last month, the North fired two intercontinental ballistic missiles with a range that could include more of the US mainland, such as Los Angeles and Chicago. (end) mk.gta
