KUWAIT, Aug 24 (KUNA) -- 1966 -- Kuwait Metal Pipe Industries was established with a capital of KD 750,000. The company manufactured, importd, and repaired all kinds of pipes.
1990 -- Iraqi forces surrounded embassies in Kuwait to force their closure and transfer to Baghdad.
1991 -- The Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah lit a torch to mark the beginning of the new schooling year, following the liberation of Kuwait from the seven-month Iraqi occupation. He underlined during the ceremony that the tyrant Iraqi regime wanted to erase everything in Kuwait, even the role of education. Schools were turned into detention facilities during the Iraqi invasion.
2008 -- Kuwait became the championship of the general category of the 19 Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) swimming championship held in Abu Dhabi after Kuwaiti swimmers won 28 medals; 15 gold, nine silver, and four bronze.
2009 -- Ministry of Public Works announced that Mishref Sewage plant was witnessing a technical malfunction, which led to the shutdown of pumps and flooding was as high as 14 meters.
2011 -- Kuwait Environment Protection Society issued a book on natural disasters. (end) gta
