Indian forces kill militant in Jammu-Kashmir clashes

NEW DELHI, Aug 22 (KUNA) -- Indian Army sources said on Tuesday that security forces gunned down a militant during an encounter in the north Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir.
Quoting an Army official the Press Trust of India said that the militant was killed in a gun battle that started as security forces came under attack while carrying out a cordon and search operation in some places in Handwara area.
The operation was launched after receiving intelligence inputs about the presence of militants in the area.
The identity of the slain militant is still unknown while a manhunt for the remaining militants continues.
New Delhi accuses Islamabad of supporting and funding armed groups in Kashmir, claims which Islamabad denies, insisting that Kashmiris are defending their freedom. (end) atk.sd
