Iraqi army prepares offensive to liberate Tal Afar from IS

BAGHDAD, Aug 19 (KUNA) -- Iraq's army announced Saturday an upcoming offensive to liberate the city of Tal Afar, northwestern Iraq, from the so-called Islamic State (IS).
Iraqi air forces dropped hundreds of thousands of leaflets over the city that included guidelines and the latest news for residents to follow, the Joint Operations Command (JOC) said in a statement.
The military has also launched a special radio broadcast, including a free phone line around the clock, open to residents in the city and its surrounding areas.
The broadcast will aim to answer all questions and enquiries regarding the upcoming military operation, said JOC. (end) ahh.ma
