Spain maintains security alert following deadly incidents

MADRID, Aug 19 (KUNA) -- Spain will maintain its security alert level at 4 after two deadly attacks in the northeastern region of Catalonia this week, Spanish Interior Minister Juan Ignacio Zoido said Saturday.
Zoido said at a press conference following a joint meeting of the country's concerned agencies that the government would reinforce security in crowded areas and tourist hotspots.
"We are going to redirect our efforts and will adapt these to every place or area that needs special protection," Zoido added.
The minister remarked that there was no need to upgrade the security alert to the maximum level which would signal an attack was imminent.
He noted that the Spanish government deemed that the cell behind the attacks had been fully dismantled. (end) hnd.mt
