Chinese FM urges all sides not to increase tensions on Korean Peninsula

TOKYO, Aug 3 (KUNA) -- Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that addressing "reasonable security concerns" is key to denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, and urged all sides not to increase tensions, Chinese State-run news agency (Xinhua) reported Thursday.
Wang made the remarks at a press briefing in Beijing in response to a question regarding recent remarks by US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.
Tillerson added that the US seeks neither "regime change" nor "collapse of the regime" in North Korea "We do not seek an accelerated reunification of the peninsula.
We do not seek an excuse to send our military north of the 38th Parallel," Tillerson said.
This came after Pyongyang fired its second intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) last Friday, following the first being launched on July 4, which it said can cover all the territories of the US.
Noting that China's stance on the issue is consistent and stable, Wang said "China is committed to denuclearization of the peninsula and maintaining peace and stability." China hopes the US will put its words into action toward North Korea," Wang said, stressing security is "at the core" of the issue, China wants a solution that addresses the "reasonable" security concerns of all parties.
