Japan on alert for possible N. Korea missile launch

TOKYO, July 27 (KUNA) -- Japan is paying a close attention to North Korea's possible launch of a ballistic missile, a top government spokesperson said Thursday amid mounting speculation that Pyongyang might be preparing another missile test.
"The government is gathering and analyzing information about the North's movements, and conducting warning and surveillance activities to respond to any situation," Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga told a press conference.
Suga made the remarks after North Korea threatened on the previous day to stage a pre-emptive nuclear strike against the US. Thursday marks the 64th anniversary of the signing of the armistice that ended the 1950-53 Korean War. Tokyo is sharing information with the US and South Korea, Suga added. (end) mk.hb
