27 buildings don't meet fire safety standards in Britain - Min.

LONDON, June 24 (KUNA) -- The UK government said Saturday that around 27 residential towers in Britain have failed a fire safety test conducted recently by British officials in the wake of the deadly Grenfell Tower blaze in west London on June 14, which killed at least 79 people.
The 27 high-rise apartment blocks in various areas across England are currently in need for urgent labor to remove the sealant materials and plastic cladding sheets surrounding the residential towers, Department for Communities and Local Government said in a press statement.
The sealant materials and cladding sheets in the tested buildings are similar to the ones installed in Grenfell Tower, the department said, adding that these materials do not meet fire safety standards, in addition to being highly flammable and a main factor in the Grenfell massive fire in Kensington area.
Meanwhile, British Prime Minister Theresa May said relevant authorities are currently exerting tremendous efforts to make residencies and buildings more compatible with safety and protection standards as soon as possible.
"My thoughts are with residents being evacuated in Camden while their homes are made safe tonight. We will work with and support the emergency services and relevant authorities to safeguard the public," May said. (end) mrn.ma
