KUWAIT, June 24 (KUNA) -- Living up to its status as a "humanitarian center," Kuwait is continuing to aid and relief needy people in the Middle East and beyond throughout the just-ended week.
On Saturday, the "Kuwait by your side" campaign distributed 4,000 food baskets in Baydha governorate, Central Yemen, as part of its ongoing relief projects during the holy month of Ramadan.
Baydha is currently undergoing several problems, including continued violence by armed militias and their control over parts of the governorate, Ahmad Salem Awad, Director-General of Transportation in Baydha, said in his speech at the food distribution ceremony in Al-Zaher directorate.
For his part, Abdullah Al-Mousa, Director of financial and administrative affairs in Baydha, expressed sincere gratitude to all financial backers from Kuwait and members of the "Kuwait by your side" campaign, valuing their great and genuine efforts in aiding the Yemeni people and society.
The "Kuwait by your side" campaign has implemented a number of food basket projects in a number of Yemeni governorates some days ago, including Hadhramaut, Taiz, and Lahj as part of its permanent relief projects in the Republic.
On Sunday, Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) delivered 1,500 food baskets to displaced Iraqis living in Al-Khazer camp, on the road linking Mosul and Irbil on Sunday.
The aid is part of the "Kuwait by your side" campaign to aid as many displaced Iraqis as possible, Kuwait's Consul General in Irbil Dr. Omar Al-Kanderi told KUNA.
Meanwhile, camp officials and residents thanked the Kuwaiti government for the continuous aid to ease the suffering of Iraqis who fled their homes in Mosul, due to the ongoing military operations against the so-called Islamic State (IS).
On Monday, the "Kuwait by your side" humanitarian aid campaign has doled out 2,015 food baskets in Yemen.
In a press statement, member of the Kuwaiti-Yemeni Relief Agency Tawfiq Hussein said that the baskets were distributed to needy people in Sanaa and Amanat Al-Asimah governorates.
He added that this is the second batch of the food aid to the two governorates, noting the first one included dispersing of over 5,500 food baskets.
He pointed out that Kuwait has also executed a number of projects for providing drinking water to several areas in Yemen. Kuwait has also sent medical supplies and vaccines to the cities hit by the outbreak of cholera.
For her part, the public relations official at Yemeni Al-Aman society for caring for blind women Hanaa Al-Ghazali expressed gratitude to Kuwait for its support to Yemeni people.
On Tuesday, Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) distributed 45 tons of food supplies to displaced Iraqis in Mosul, said an official.
KRCS coordinator, Mohammad Al-Enezi told KUNA that delivering food supplies would continue in the region to enable displaced Iraqis to overcome their dire situation.
He affirmed that the KRCS was keen on helping the displaced Iraqis who have fled military operations carried out by the Iraqi forces and allies against IS in Mosul since late 2016.
The KRCS began recently a weeklong aid campaign targeting around 40,000 displaced people in Mosul.
On Friday, Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS), in cooperation with local charities and banks, provided aid and assistance to those in need within the country and abroad during the holy month of Ramadan, said the Chairman of the Board for the KRCS Dr. Hilal Al-Sayer.
Speaking to KUNA, Al-Sayer said that the KRCS efforts was mainly aimed at giving a glimpse of hope to poor people and the needy during the course of the month of Ramadan, adding that the assistance this year consisted of distributing necessities, coupons, and foodstuff in addition to field visits and other charitable activities.
The efforts this year were a success due to KRCS' cooperation with numerous local bodies, said Al-Sayer who affirmed that such gestures helped to solidify social bonds among the people of Kuwait.
On providing aid abroad, the KRCS chairman affirmed that the society made it its mission to help people in numerous parts of the world during the holy month.
Various initiatives were launched to help Syrian and Palestinian refugees in Lebanon, said Al-Sayer, adding that Iftar banquets and food parcels were the main form of aid given to the refugees.
He added that medical aid was also provided to Syrian refugees in the fellow Arab country.
He revealed that KRCS also provided aid to people in the occupied Palestinian territories, Iraq, Afghanistan, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and other countries, affirming that the society will continue its efforts to provide assistance locally and internationally.
