NEW DELHI, June 22 (KUNA) -- Indian defense sources informed that two Army personnel and two militants were killed on Thursday in encounters that erupted near the Line of Control dividing India and Pakistan in Chakan da Bagh sector of Poonch district in north Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir.
Militant elements were trying to sneak into the Indian territories with the support of the Pakistan's Border Action Teams (BAT) along the Line of Control in Chakan da Bagh sector of Poonch, Indo Asian News Agency reported quoting defence ministry sources.
The ensuing encounters resulted in the killing of Paramjit Singh and Prem Sagar of the Indian Border Security Force and two militants.
Heavy exchange of fire took place between the Indian and Pakistani forces along the border following "unprovoked firing and shelling at Indian positions" by the Pakistani security forces, Indian defence sources said.
Earlier, Indian police sources said that three members of the banned Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba were killed following an encounter in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir.
New Delhi accuses Islamabad of supporting and funding the armed groups in Kashmir, claims that Islamabad denies and insists Kashmir people are defending their freedom. (end) atk.mb
