ISLAMABAD, June 22 (KUNA) -- At least 29 people were killed and over 60 others wounded in a car suicide bombing in front of a bank in Afghanistan's southern Helmand province on Thursday, said an official.
Provincial governor's spokesman Omer Zwak told media that the suicide bomber detonated his explosive laden car in front of the Kabul Bank in Lashkargah, the capital of Helmand province, when a large number of civilians and military personnel were waiting to collect salaries.
He confirmed that civilians, policemen and military personnel were among the dead and injured.
No group has immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. Helmand, one of the largest opium producing provinces of Afghanistan, has been the center of fierce clashes among Afghan Taliban and security forces in past. (end) sbk.mt
