Queen Elizabeth II outlines legislative agenda ahead of Brexit

LONDON, June 21 (KUNA) -- Britain's departure from the European Union (known as Brexit) and the fight against terrorism were the focal points of Queen Elizabeth II's speech to open parliament on Wednesday.
In her speech, the British queen laid out the laws that ministers intend on passing in the coming year, where eight out of the 27 bills relate to Brexit and its implications for key industries.
In addition to a bill that will convert EU rules into British law, there are other measures dealing with trade, immigration, fisheries, nuclear safety, agriculture and sanctions.
The British queen noted that the government of Prime Minister Theresa May will do everything in its power to reach the best possible Brexit deal with the EU after official negotiations are over.
Meanwhile, Queen Elizabeth II made no mention of official state visits to the UK by heads of states, including US President Donald Trump's proposed visit later this year. (end) mrn.nam
