Japan, S. Korea FMs confirm close cooperation on N. Korea

TOKYO, June 21 (KUNA) -- Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida and his South Korean counterpart Kang Kyung-wha confirmed on Wednesday their close cooperation toward the complete denuclearization of North Korea.
"We agreed to strengthen pressure on North Korea to abandon its development of nuclear weapons through the framework of South Korea-Japan and South Korea-US-Japan collaboration," Kishida told reporters after his 25-minute telephone conversation with Kang, who took office this week.
"South Korea is Japan's important neighbor which shares strategic interests. In order to further advance bilateral cooperation between the two countries in various fields, and develop the relations to the future-oriented new era, I wish to maintain close communication and foster relationships of trust with Ms. Kang," said Kishida.
