KUWAIT, June 5 (KUNA) -- Head of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq Ammar Al-Hakim underlined Monday on the important role of Kuwait in helping Iraq and Iraqi people.
Al-Hakim, in an open meeting organized by Kuwait Journalists Association (KJA), said his visit to Kuwait was part of continuous contacts with Arab, Muslim and regional countries.
Al-Hakim, who said he selected Kuwait as his first stop due to the "special relations between the two countries," said Kuwait played a major role in helping Iraq following the liberation of the country in 2003, whether at the humanitarian and economic levels.
He said he met with the Kuwaiti leadership earlier today and briefed them on the security situations in Iraq and progress of military operations to liberate the cities from terrorists, specially in Nineveh.
He said they also discussed the political situations, and how Iraqis were committed to democracy, the internally displaced and reconstruction.
Al-Hakim said the Iraqis sought to eliminate so-called Islamic State (IS) and ridding the country from terrorism.
He said Kuwait contributed in the reconstruction of areas liberated from IS, through charitable and humanitarian projects like schools and students.
Asked about the region, Al-Hakim said dialogue was the best solution to address problems of the area. "We call for the voice of wisdom ...," he said.
He said Iraq wanted to have good relations with Egypt and Iran as well as the entire region. (end) shd.bs
