Manchester attack kills 22, prepetrator

(With POL-UK-PM-BLAST) LONDON, May 23 (KUNA) -- Manchester suicide attacker was killed as he detonated AN improvised explosive device (IED) in Manchester Arena, in Manchester city on Monday night, killing 22 people while injuring other 59, including children, according to latest official FIGURES, UK Police announced Tuesday.
Greater Manchester Police Chief Ian Hopkins said in press remarks that the attack was committed by a male who was carrying the IED at the Arena before the end of a concert of teen pop star Ariana Grande.
The investigations are held by leaps and bounds to figure out whether the attack perpetrator works alone or with an organization, he said.
The city police is working in cooperation with Britain's counter-terrorism officers and domestic counter-intelligence in order to accelerate the investigations process.
Hopkins called on the citizens to be alert and cautious, and to report any suspicions activities, considering this explosion to be the worst in the history of Manchester.
Prime Minister Theresa May will head a cabinet meeting later today, along with the Government's emergency response committee (COBRA) to discuss the attack.
British Interior Minister Amber Rudd described the incident as a "barbaric action," praising the rapid and professional response of police officers towards this "tragic" incident. (end) kd.lb
