Trump urges more peace efforts

RAMALLAH, May 22 (KUNA) -- US President Donald Trump said on Monday that more work should be done in order to ensure a peace future that is free of terrorism.
Speaking to reporters upon arrival at Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv, Trump said the US and Israel could work together in an era of "harmony, prosperity and peace".
Coming from Saudi Arabia as part of his Middle East tour, the US president called an Israeli-Palestinian peace agreement "the ultimate deal".
On his visit to Riyadh, he said he had reached historic agreements with Saudi leaders, which would lead to more cooperation in the fight against terrorism.
Trump said he hoped to "reaffirm the unbreakable bond" between the US and Israel during his visit.
Trump's schedule over the two-day Israeli leg includes visits to Christian and Jewish holy sites, meetings with Israel's president and prime minister, and a trip to Bethlehem to meet with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
On his part, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described Trump's visit as a historic one that reflects bilateral friendship.
He hailed US commitment to Middle East peace process, claiming that Israel wants a genuine and sustainable peace that ensures the recognition of a Jewish state. (end) nq.mt
