IED blast kills five people in North Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, May 22 (KUNA) -- At least five people, including a Levies personnel, were killed on Monday in a Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast targeting a vehicle of a peace committee in Pakistan's northern Khyber tribal Agency, said officials.
According to political agent of Khyber Agency Khalid Mahmud, the remote controlled bomb went off near a vehicle of peace committee killing four volunteers and a Levies personnel in Akakhel area of Khyber's Tirah Valley. The head of the peace committee, Zarwali Khan was among those killed in the blast. The vehicle was completely destroyed in the attack. The security forces and rescue teams immediately reached the site of the attack.
The blast came at a time when Pakistan military had launched "Operation Raddul Fasaad" in February across the country aiming to consolidate the gains made in previous military operations against local and foreign militants. (end) sbk.lb
