KUWAIT, May 21 (KUNA) -- Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Essa Al-Kandari stated Sunday that Kuwaiti youth have a high sense of creativity that qualifies them to compete in international competitions, considering them as the real wealth of Kuwait.
The State is pinning high hopes on national youth to raise its flag high in different regional and international scientific forums, Al-Kandari told reporters on the sidelines of a ceremony held by Kuwait University and sponsored by National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim to declare the winners of Startup Kuwait innovation competition for university students.
He lauded Kuwait University's support to youth who have achieved great success in this creative competition, held for the second year in a row.
He expressed his pleasure for seeing the distinguished projects which won the prizes of this year's edition.
These are a tangible proof of the creativity of Kuwaiti youth and their ability to transform the country and contribute to its comprehensive development, he said. For his part, Kuwait University President Dr. Hussein Al-Ansari said Startup Kuwait competition is based on the vision of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for turning Kuwaiti into a financial and commercial hub.
A total of 29 projects competed this year, and they covered various domains such as computer, food and other fields, he said.
Al-Ansari highly praised the students who participated in the contest.
Dr. Reda Behbehani, of the Faculty of Administrative Sciences, announced the winning projects.
He identified them as: "Habbah" of student Mohammed Alwan from the Arab Open University; "the Magniscope" project of Areej Ahmad, Batul Dashti, Lamees Waleed and Sajida Hussein from the Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering at Kuwait University; "Playground Drop & Drag" project of students Ali Ashkanani, Salman Al-Ahmad, Hassan Fayrouz, Ahmed Al-Azmi from the Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering at Kuwait University; and "AlZaheiGlass" of students Aisha Al-Enezi and Al-Ajmi from the same faculty.
They also included "The 3rd Eye" of students Fatima Al-Doub, Sara Al-Kassar and Nora Al-Yousef from the Faculty of Engineering and Petroleum at the University of Kuwait; "Italk" of students Hessa Al-Shammari and Eida Al-Azmi from the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training; "Techno Fun Games" of students Mashari Al-Fulaij of the Gulf University of Science and Technology; "Diabetic Breathalyzer" of students Asmaa Al-Hamdan, Bashair Al-Mutawa, Munira Al-Rabah and Sara Ali from the Faculty of Engineering and Petroleum at Kuwait University has been awarded two awards, the first for getting the highest public vote and the second for social service; and "Your Doctor in Your Office " of students Rehab Gad, Razan Al- Samhan and Hajar Al-Bolushi from the Faculty of Engineering and Petroleum at the University of Kuwait.
The winners will receive initial grants and will then have the opportunity to apply for financing from the Kuwait Fund for Supporting Small and Medium Enterprises. (end) mrf.ibi
