Federal judge blocks Trump plan to punish sanctuary cities

WASHINGTON, April 25 (KUNA) -- A California judge late Tuesday blocked President Donald Trump's Executive Order that aims to punish sanctuary cities in the US - places where undocumented immigrants are protected from the full force of law.
The White House produced the order on January 25, threatening to withhold federal funds from cities that do not comply with Trump's new immigration laws. The court challenge, brought by Santa Clara County, led Judge William Orrick to deem the order unconstitutional, and block it temporarily.
The order will only "deprive local jurisdictions of congressional allocated funds without any notice or opportunity to be heard," Orrick wrote. (end) ys.gb
