EU condemns terror attacks in Baghdad

BRUSSELS, Feb 16 (KUNA) -- The EU condemned Thursday the third terrorist attack in three consecutive days that has targeted Baghdad today, causing many deaths among the people of the city.
"Violence targeting innocent civilians is unacceptable. The European Union extends its sincere condolences to the families of the victims of these attacks," said the spokesperson for EU High Representative Federica Mogherini here tonight.
"These attacks confirm the importance of overcoming divisions within the country, focusing on combatting terrorist groups and restoring security and the rule of law throughout the whole country," it said.
The EU supports Iraq in its efforts to achieve reconciliation and bring reform, and pledges to continue its political and financial support to the population and the authorities in the country in their fight for peace, democracy and pluralism, it added. (end) nk.hb
