UNITED NATIONS, Dec 26 (KUNA) -- The members of the UN Security Council
(UNSC) on Monday "condemned in the strongest terms" the terrorist attacks that
occurred in Madalla, Jos and Damaturu, Nigeria, on Christmas day causing
numerous deaths and injuries.
They expressed their deep sympathy and condolences to the victims of these
"heinous" crimes and their families, and to the Nigerian people and
Government.
They reaffirmed that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations is
"criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of its motivation, wherever, whenever
and by whomsoever committed, and should not be associated with any religion,
nationality, civilization or ethnic group.
"They reaffirmed the need to combat by all means, in accordance with the
Charter of the United Nations, threats to international peace and security
caused by terrorist acts and reminded States that they must ensure that
measures taken to combat terrorism comply with all their obligations under
international law, in particular international human rights, refugee and
humanitarian law.
They underlined the need to bring perpetrators, organizers, financiers and
sponsors of these reprehensible acts of terrorism to justice, and urged all
States, in accordance with their obligations under international law and
relevant Security Council resolutions, to cooperate actively with the Nigerian
authorities in this regard.
They reiterated their determination to combat all forms of terrorism, in
accordance with its responsibilities under the UN Charter. (end)
