NEW DELHI, May 17 (KUNA) -- Huda Al-Sulaiman, the wife of Kuwaiti ambassador to India Sami Al-Sulaiman, showcased her designs of some 40 women dresses, particularly 'Daraah' and 'Abaya' designs, in rich Indian fabrics, at a fashion show organized at the Kuwaiti embassy here, Monday evening.
Indian models sashayed down the ramp wearing the unique dresses at the glittering fashion event titled "The Reflection of Indian Heritage on Kuwaiti Customs".
The event was part of the continuum of the year-long celebrations of the the 50th Anniversary of the Independence, the 20th Anniversary of the Liberation, and the 5th Anniversary of His Highness the Amir's Assumption of Power.
Indian Vice-President Hamid Ansari's wife, Salma Ansari, graced the occasion as guest of honor. Lauding Huda's effort in designing the dresses showcased on the occasion, Salma said the dresses were beautiful with magnificent designs on carefully chosen rich Indian fabrics in bold colours.
"It was really an excellent attempt to bring together Indian and Kuwait's art and culture through women dresses. One must realize that what women choose becomes precious, like diamonds attained precious value only after they were loved and adored by the women folk," Salma told KUNA after the show.
Speaking on the occasion, Huda Al-Sulaiman said that Indian handicraft (on dresses) like 'zari-work', 'patch-work' and 'bead-work', have occupied a special place in Kuwaiti dresses, "hence there is a great demand for Indian dresses and designs in Kuwait." "Indian fabric such as pure cotton, silk, and chiffon enchant the heart of every Kuwaiti woman. There is plenty of scope for Indian merchandise in Kuwait, " added the Kuwaiti envoy's wife, while addressing the gathering on the occasion.
The event was also attended by a select gathering of women from different fields like politics, art-and-culture, academics, media, and women of foreign origin from various embassies in the Indian Capital.(end) py.wsa KUNA 171129 May 11NNNN
