France lauds Jordan''s planned reforms

PARIS, April 29 (KUNA) -- The French government welcomed on Friday the comprehensive reform package unveiled recently by Jordanian King Abdullah II.
The course of reforms adopted by King Abdullah II notably the decision to set up a royal committee to amend the constitution will enable the legislative and executive authorities play an effective role and ensure better future for the Jordanians, French Foreign Ministry's deputy spokesperson Christine Fages said in a press briefing.
France also welcomes the formation of a national committee for dialogue on the development of a modern election law that could revive the political life and enable all actors to tackle the economic and social challenges, she added.
The spokesperson affirmed France's support to the resolve of Jordan to pursue the reform course thoroughly.
On Tuesday the Jordanian monarch tasked a panel with revising, and suggesting amendments to, the constitution with a view to ensuring a better future for the country.
Another panel, consisting of key politicians and representatives of trade unions, and civil society institutions, is working out a new election law aiming to realize the political and economic reforms. (end) amm.gb KUNA 292216 Apr 11NNNN
