Top cleric praises Abbas'' struggle for national rights

RAMALLAH, Nov 16 (KUNA) -- The top Palestinian cleric on Tuesday praised the leadership of President Mahmoud Abbas for holding firm to the rights of the Palestinian people.
Sheikh Mohammad Hussein, the Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian homeland, said the Palestinian people and their "wise leadership set an example of patience and sacrifice" for the nations of the world.
The leadership of President Abbas has proven its solid commitment to the basic national principles and rights, that are also ensured by the international legitimacy, said the mufti, in an eid sermon, addressed at the "Protocols Mosque," located within the compound of the Palestinian presidency headquarters.
Nations of the globe should take a fair stance toward the cause of the Palestinian people who have remained steadfast on their territories despite "the racial practices by the occupation that are aimed at the misappropriation of their territories and driving the natives out of their lands through the construction of the racial fence and the settlements," said the top clergyman in the Palestinian territories.
Abbas performed the eid prayers at the mosque, along with Prime Minister Salam Fayyad and a number of advisors and officials of the Palestinian authority. Following the prayers, the president laid a wreath of flowers at the burial site of the late president, Yasser Arafat.
Addressing attendees, Abbas stated, "I hope that the eid falls next year with the dream of our people for the establishment of an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital realized .. a state free of settlements and settlers." (end) nq.rk KUNA 161301 Nov 10NNNN
