Kuwait Fund signs USD 9.55 mln deal with UNRWA for schools in Gaza

GAZA, Dec 5 (KUNA) -- The UN relief agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, and the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) have signed an agreement to build five schools in Gaza worth USD 9.55 million.
The agreement was signed at the Jordanian capital of Amman by the Islamic Development Bank's (IDB) Mansour Bin Fattan, who are representing the KFAED, and UNRWA envoy, Peter Ford, according to an UNRWA statement.
Speaking on the event, UNRWA Commissioner-General Filippo Grandi hailed the partnership with the KFAED, adding that it was the first, and noting, on the other hand, to the fruitful long-standing cooperation with the IDB.
One of the KFAED-funded schools will offer a state-of-the-art environmentally-friendly building, designed by Italian architectural firm Mario Cucinella.
UNRWA is currently providing education to 218,000 displaced children, across 243 schools in Gaza. (end) mzt.sd KUNA 051540 Dec 11NNNN
