KUWAIT, Dec 4 (KUNA) -- Deputy premier and foreign minister Sheikh Sabah
Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah on Sunday expressed Kuwait's keenness on solving the
conflict in Syria under the Arab League umbrella, hoping the Syrian government
would have positive response to the Arab initiative.
"Solving the Syrian conflict is still within the Arab League framework and
under its umbrella," Sheikh Sabah told reporters on sidelines of the opening
of the 2nd economic fair for embassies.
The Arab initiative "includes the gathering of the Syrian government and
opposition through the Arab League to draw the future prospects of Syria," he
said.
Asked about Kuwaitis being held by Iran, Sheikh Sabah said the foreign
ministry was in constant contact with the Kuwaiti ambassador in Tehran and the
Iranian embassy in Kuwait "to follow up the conditions" of the Kuwaitis.
The foreign ministry is continuing its efforts to have "positive results"
in near future, he said.
Sheikh Sabah was asked about the next Kuwaiti Ambassador to Saudi Arabia as
the former envoy was appointed as information minister. "The next minister
will tell you about this issue," said the minister, who is now serving in a
care-taker government until a new one is formed.
On the other hand, the two-day fair is the fruit of cooperation between
different embassies in Kuwait namely in the economic, investment, commercial
and financial domains, noted the foreign minister.
He said the economic domain was complimenting the political cooperation
between Kuwait and countries around the globe.
The fair, held at the headquarters of Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic
Development (KFAED), groups 50 diplomatic missions based in Kuwait.
Foreign and Arab diplomatic missions will display products of their
countries, publications about their states' tourist, economic, cultural,
industrial and educational sectors. (pickup previous)
