EU Commissioner visits South Sudan to enhance development cooperation

BRUSSELS, Nov 10 (KUNA) -- EU Development Commissioner Andris Piebalgs will hold a serious of political talks with President Salva Kiir and ministers of the government of South Sudan in Juba on Thursday. A statement by his office today said Piebalgs will present a draft country development strategy paper, which was endorsed by the EU development ministers. If approved by South Sudan, the paper will enable EU Member States and the European Commission to programme their funds jointly and improve efficiency of EU aid.
Piebalgs will also discuss political issues, such as political relations with the North, human rights and good governance issues, including corruption. He will also meet with United Nations Special Rapporteur Hilde Johnson to discuss security issues and other representatives of international community, added the statement.
