Germany voices opposition to military action against Iran

BERLIN, Nov 8 (KUNA) -- German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle warned on Tuesday against resorting to the military option to coerce Iran scrap its nuclear program.
Westerwelle said in a statement, broadcast by the local media, that European states would prepare a new package of curbs against Iran in case the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) determined that Tehran continued its nuclear activities.
He warned against dire consequences of military solutions in tackling the Iranian nuclear file, noting that such an eventuality would strengthen the Iranian government.
The minister indicated at desire to win support of Russia and China for further punitive action against Iran, but indicated that Berlin would seek to impose more sanctions, in coordination with the alllies, in case Moscow and Beijin chose to abstain from taking part in collective action against Tehran.
