VIENNA, Oct 20 (KUNA) -- Kuwait Permanent Delegate to the UN Office in Geneva Ambassador Dhrar Abdulrazzaq Rzouqi asserted Thursday his country's keenness to abide by Islamic Sharia (law) and international conventions in forming its constitution.
"The Sharia and the international conventions became basic sources of strength in the protection of human rights," the diplomat said while presenting Kuwait's statement on International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR).
"Kuwaiti legislature was keen to ensure the independence of the judiciary system to ensure its integrity and freedom during the verdict independently without influence from any party whatsoever," Rzouqi said.
The Kuwaiti diplomat added that the Kuwaiti constitution provided articles to the International Covenant on civil and political rights, and it seems clear in most of its articles," citing Article 29 which provides the principle of equal rights and duties without discrimination and Article 166 which guarantees the right of litigation as well as issues related to political participation in all aspects of life in Kuwait's activity and laws that guarantees civil and political rights.
