PARIS, Aug 23 (KUNA) -- French President Nicolas Sarkozy and US President
Barack Obama discussed "at length" the situation in Libya Tuesday and praised
the "decisive progress" made by the Libyan opposition in the past few days, an
official statement from Sarkozy's office said.
The two leaders also agreed "to pursue the military effort to support that
of the legitimate Libyan authorities."
The French statement here said Sarkozy and Obama were prepared to keep up
military pressure "for a long as Gaddafi and his clan have not laid down arms."
The French and US Presidents also agreed to move forward in organising a
meeting of the international community to "help engender a political
transition in a spirit of reconciliation and national unity, with the aim of
building a new, democratic and pluralist Libya."
With this in mind, backing was given for an international conference in
Paris in the near future. (end)
