Arab League calls for halting fighting in Libya

CAIRO, Aug 14 (KUNA) -- The Arab League called for joint efforts at the Arab, regional and international levels to help the Libyans reach a cease-fire and a political agreement to stop the bloodshedding.
The Arab organization in a statement issued on Sunday expressed hope the warring forces in Libya would succeed in working out a settlement that would meet their aspirations, secure reforms and preserve the country's unity, sovereignty and territorial sanctity.
The league secretariat general has been following up with deep concern on the attacks and hardships suffered by the civilians in Libya.
The statement referred to previous resolutions by the organization calling for sparing lives of the civilians, securing necessities for them and alleviating their hardships. (end) mfm.rg.rk KUNA 141948 Aug 11NNNN
