HH Amir''s USD 1 mln donation to Somalia opens door for public donations -- IICO

By Abdullah Al-Marshad KUWAIT, July 25 (KUNA) -- President of the International Islamic Charitable Organization (IICO), Dr. Abdullah al-Maatouq announced on Monday that His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has donated USD one million, marking the opening of donations campaign to aid drought-stricken victims in Somalia.
Al-Maatouq expressed to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) his appreciation for the high directives of His Highness the Amir for the IICO to organize such a campaign to collect donations for the relief of those affected and afflicted by the drought crisis hitting this country and affecting millions of its citizens.
He said that this generous donation from His Highness the Amir comes as the beginning and in support of the International Islamic Charitable Organization's efforts in this humanitarian campaign, adding that this generosity is not uncommon for HH the Amir and reflects HH the Amir's humanitarian delicate conscience.
Al-Maatouq pointed out that His Highness the Amir has stressed his commitment to lift the severe suffering of the people of Somalia and his confirmation of the importance of providing them with necessary support through creative initiatives, which include providing them with emergency relief to prevent more victims.
He added that His Highness the Amir has directed the IICO to organize a public campaign to collect donations for the benefit of victims in Somalia who suffer severe drought in coordination with the similar organizations and charities in Kuwait.
