GCC condemns Iranian FM''s remarks over Bahrain

RIYADH, July 11 (KUNA) -- GCC Secretary General Abdullatif Al-Zayani on Monday condemned Iranian foreign minister Ali Akbar Salehi's reported statement in which he said Tehran was defending and supporting rights of the people of Bahrain.
Salehi's remarks "are blatant interference in affairs of Kingdom of Bahrain, and a violation of diplomatic customs and principles of good neighborliness," Al-Zayani said in a press statement.
The rights of Bahraini people are the responsibility of the "wise" leadership of the Arab Gulf Kingdom, said Al-Zayani.
The Bahraini leadership, he added, sought to enhance security, stability and civil peace with "courageous" initiative like the national dialogue, forming an independent fact-finding committee and pushing forward with reforms.
Statements of Salehi and other Iranian officials are evidence of Tehran's ongoing interference in Bahrain's internal affairs, he said.
Al-Zayani said the Iranian officials should listen to repeated demands of the Iranian people, who were calling for more freedoms and dignity.
Iranian media, asserted the GCC chief, should stop provocation and triggering of discord and sectarian sedition. (end) ay.bs KUNA 112152 Jul 11NNNN
