Kuwaiti officials, academics react to H.H. Amiri speech

KUWAIT, June 16 (KUNA) -- Kuwaiti officials and academics reacted to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah's speech which was delivered yesterday, vowing to follow on the principles delivered in the speech.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Ahmad Al-Humoud Al-Jaber Al-Sabah affirmed that the Interior Ministry would work on measures to implement the principles mentioned in the Amiri speech, noting that Kuwait would always come first and foremost.
He called on the members and personnel of the Interior Ministry and law-enforcers to heed the calls of the leader of Kuwait and work effortlessly to make sure that Kuwait was peaceful and secure.
Similarly, Deputy Prime Minister for Legal Affairs, Minister of Justice, and Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Dr. Mohammad Al-Afasi stressed that His Highness the Amir's speech has set the pillars for national unity and cooperation amongst members of the society.
He noted that any calls for rallies and protests should be set within the criteria of respecting the law and others, adding that the Amiri speech stressed such aspects.
Also speaking about the same subject, Minister of Information and Minister of Communication Sami Al-Nisef said that the Amiri speech was to be abided by, affirming that such step should be with a collective effort by all parts of society.
"His Highness the Amir has a clear vision in regards to internal and foreign policy affairs," the Minister told KUNA, saying that it was important to follow what was related in the speech.
Such statements were also echoed by Minister of Public Works and Minister of State for Municipal Affairs Dr. Fahdel Safar who said that the Amiri speech reflected true and honest sentiments towards the safety of Kuwait and its people.
He told KUNA that negativity was not the choice of the Kuwaiti people and it would reflect negatively on the country. He called on citizens to answer the calls by His Highness the Amir and safeguard their country.
On his part, Speaker of the National Assembly (Parliament) Jassem Al-Kharafi thanked His Highness the Amir for valuable words of wisdom and concern, saying that national unity was a line that should be not be tampered with.
He affirmed that His Highness the Amir was very keen on the peace and security of Kuwait and such ideals should be held dear to every Kuwaiti citizen.
Al-Kharafi called on MPs to abide by His Highness's speech and cast aside differences and disagreements.
On the educational level, Kuwait University's (KU) Head of the College Education Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Ahmad and also head of the American Studies at Department Dr. Faisal Abu-Sulaib both called on Kuwaitis to work for the future and focus on the Amiri speech as the main pillar for development and harmony in the country.
