Five Yemeni soldiers killed in Al-Qaeda attack

SANAA, May 27 (KUNA) -- At least five soldiers were killed in attacks by Al-Qaeda militants against a security checkpoint, the Central Bank and Al-Ahli Bank in southern Yemen on Friday, local media said.
They said Al-Qaeda militants attack a checkpoint in Dofas area, as well as branches of the Central Bank and Al-Ahli Bank in city of Zenjebar in the Governorate of Abyan.
They added that Zenjebar has been witnessing, since dawn today, armed confrontations between the militants and government forces.
Yemeni air force pounded strongholds of Al-Qaeda militants in Zenjebar with echoes of explosions heard all over the city.
Militants of Al-Qaeda had, two months ago, took control of ammunication factory, a radio station, military vehicles and heavy weapons in Abyan. (end) az.bs KUNA 272022 May 11NNNN
