KUWAIT, May 16 (KUNA) -- Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI)
organized on Monday a lecture on the role of business incubators in supporting
small businesses and the national economy with the participation of a number
of specialists and those interested in this area.
Professor of civil engineering at Kuwait University Dr. Hanadi al-Mubaraki
said in her speech that business incubators are like an integrated system that
provides all the capabilities needed to start small and medium enterprises.
She added that incubators include an integrated network of links and
contacts with the business society and is managed by a specialized department
that provides the necessary support to increase the chances of success for
these projects, especially that the small businesses that operate outside the
scope of incubators are exposed to stumbling more than the projects that are
within the scope of incubators.
She explained that the idea of incubators began nearly 50 years ago and now
there are 60 institutions operating in the global incubator program, noting
that the number of incubators in 1980 was 100 while the number last year had
risen to 7,000 throughout the world.
She said that the first program for business incubators in the countries of
the Gulf Cooperation Council was established in Bahrain in 2004, followed by
several programs in various countries of the Council, indicating that the
incubators contribute effectively in promoting economic development and access
to sustainable development. (end)
