RABAT, May 15 (KUNA) -- The Moroccan riot police on Sunday dispersed a
sit-in staged at the soil control survey directorate in Temara district, south
Rabat, in protest against purported human right violations.
The local authorities said security forces had to use force to end "the
unauthorized demonstration," affirming that nobody applied for permission in
this regard.
Meanwhile, the February 20 movement, which advocates political, economic
and social reforms and sponsored the protest, accused the national security
services of committing human rights abuses.
The movement claimed, in a statement this evening, that the forces injured
100 protesters and arrested 44 others while dispersing the sit in.
The security forces released the detainees later today after confiscating
their mobile phones and cameras, according to the statement. (end)
