CAIRO, March 21 (KUNA) -- The Arab Parliament nominated by acclamation
during its emergency meeting here Monday member of the Kuwaiti National
Assembly Ali Al-Deqbasi to succeed Libyan Huda Ben Amer, who has been sacked.
The Arab Parliament started its emergency session with a resolution that
provides for dismissing the parliament's speaker Ben Amer.
This comes in implementation of the resolution made by the Arab League that
stipulates the non-participation of the delegations of the Libyan government
at the meetings of the Arab League Council, and all relevant Arab bodies and
agencies, including the Arab Parliament.
Further, the Arab League's resolution comes in protest of the crimes that
are being perpetrated by the Libyan authorities against protesters, and
ongoing peaceful popular demonstrations in a number of Libyan cities, besides
the use of live ammunition, heavy war machines, military aircraft, and
recruiting mercenaries to quell the protesters.
The Arab League Council set some preconditions for Libya's return to the
pan-Arab body, including immediate halt of violence against protesters,
resorting to national dialogue, responding to legitimate demands of the Libyan
people, and respecting their right to demonstrate and freedom of speech.
Additionally, the Arab League called on Libyan authorities to lift the
embargo on media outlets, reopening means of communication and phone network,
besides giving an access to urgent medical assistance to injured people.
The emergency session of the Arab Parliament is also attended by Foreign
Relations Committee Chairman at the Kuwaiti National Assembly Mubarak
Al-Khureinj, in addition to MP Mikhled Al-Azmi. (end)
