RAMALLAH, March 12 (KUNA) -- Israeli authorities imposed a blockade on
Jerusalem and cemented military barrier between Ramallah and Jerusalem on
Saturday.
Israeli troops manning checkpoints have searched intensively citizens'
identification cards and cars, as well as adding checkpoints in and around
Jerusalem, according to witnesses.
The Israeli decision to enforce a siege is due to an attack in Nablus that
killed five settlers.
Meanwhile, in the town of Silwan, clashes that started Friday afternoon
continued until late at night, said member of the Committee for the Defense
Silwan, Fakhri Abu Diab.
Speaking to KUNA, Abu Diab added that Israeli troops fired rubber bullets
and tear gas towards a protestation tent, in which people were performing
Friday prayers.
The Israel forces also sprayed wastewater towards Palestinian homes in Al
Bustan neighborhood, he said, adding that journalists were prevented from
covering the incidents in Silwan. (end)
