ALGIERS, March 6 (KUNA) -- Algerian trains' drivers began a strike in the
Algerian capital and surrounding areas on Sunday, demanding pay raise and
extra social benefits.
Spokesman of Algerian drivers union, Bulaima Haroun said that the protests
were part of "the internal demands for national federation to railroad workers.
"
Haroun added that trains' drivers wanted 30 percent increase in wages,
currently 750 Algerian Dinar (USD 10), particularly to technicians.
Protesters also called for reassessing legislations on trains' drivers
which date back to 1948, noting that such outdates legislations endanger
citizens because train would be operated over their intended capacity.
