South Sudan minister assassinated in Juba -- govt. sources

KHARTOUM, Feb 9 (KUNA) -- Unknown assailants shot dead South Sudan's minister of rural development and cooperation Jimmy Lemi in his office Wednesday, in the Capital, Juba, according to Army sources.
The sources told KUNA the South Sudan government has formed a committee to investigate the assassination and noted preliminary investigations are already underway.
They added no clear information is as yet available on the assassins, their motives, or their affiliation.
South Sudan is to be declared an independent sovereign state July 9, in view of the overwhelming support of separation from the north in the recent referendum, results of which were announced Monday and approved by the government.(end) hha.wsa KUNA 091355 Feb 11NNNN
