TEHRAN, Jan 15 (KUNA) -- Head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization, Ali
Akbar Salehi, said Saturday that the Islamic Republic "did not and will not go
ahead with making a nuclear bomb. It is forbidden according to Sharia law."
Salehi, also caretaker foreign minister, made the remarks at a ceremony
held for unveiling Iran's new nuclear achievements with presence of foreign
diplomats at Arak heavy water site.
"The visit by foreign diplomats to Iran's nuclear sites shows Iran's
transparency and sincerity in terms of its peaceful nuclear activities," he
added.
The diplomats, representing the Non-Aligned Movement, Group-77 and Arab
League at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), appreciated Iran's
invitation to visit the nuclear sites.
The ambassadors of Algeria, Cuba, Egypt, Syria, Oman and Venezuela to the
IAEA, were at the Arak heavy weter site.
"I am optimistic about the Istanbul meeting on later this month between
Iran and the UNSC members in addition to Germany. As time passes by, it is in
the interest of Iran not the other party," Salehi noted.
The deuterated compounds produced by the newly-operative installations,
have numerous applications in the fields of chemistry, agriculture, biology,
medicine and pharmaceuticals.
They can be utilized in medicine by enhancing effectiveness of some drugs,
as they can also be used in the production of fiber-optic cables and some
