KUWAIT, Jan 4 (KUNA) -- Kuwaiti Traffic Department Director, Major General
Mahmoud Al-Dosari said on Tuesday that youths in the country represent 70
percent of fatality cases as a result of traffic accidents, which negatively
affects the country's manpower productivity.
Al-Dosari said, in a press release, that "efforts to minimize traffic
accidents exerted by the traffic department sector resulted in decreasing
fatality cases last year, particularly when compared to previous years,
starting from 2006 and until 2010."
"460 death cases were reported in 2006, compared to 447 in 2007, 410 cases
in 2008, 407 in 2009, and 374 death cases in 2010," Al-Dosari added.
The official pointed to recklessness and overspeed as the two main reasons
behind the high rate of car accidents.
Al-Dosari added mobile radars, together with fixed cameras have forced
motorists to drive slowly, praising the results achieved by such commitment in
areas which experienced above-average speeds in the past. (end)
