CAIRO, Nov 25 (KUNA) -- Egyptian Prosecutor General Abdulmeguid Mahmoud
decided Thursday that 156 defendants are to be remanded in custody pending
further investigations related to riots that took place in Giza.
These riots resulted in the injury of dozens including policemen, besides
damaging public properties.
The prosecution imputed several charges to the defendants including
engaging in public gathering with the aim of preventing and delaying the law
enforecment along with influencing the missions of public authorities through
the use of force and through infringing on those responsible for implementing
the rules of law, namely the policemen.
The prosecution also imputed to the defendants the charges of attempted
premeditated murder of some police personnel, possessing explosive charge
without getting a license from concerned bodies, deliberate sabotage of public
buildings, disrupting the movement of public transportation and possessing
cold steel arms without justification.
The Prosecutor General had asserted yesterday against the backdrop of the
riots and clashes in Al-Omraniya district of Egyptian Giza governorate that
the Public Prosecution will strictly and decisively deal with all acts that
represent crimes as well as confronting their perpetrators according to the
rules of constitution and law.
These incidents led to damaging several facilities, buildings and
governmental properties after a gathering of Coptic people clashed with
policemen in front of the Giza governorate's headquarters in, a bid on the
part of the former, to complete construction works in a complex for medical
and social services and transforming it to a church. (end)
