ISLAMABD, Oct 11 (KUNA) -- About 20 Taliban fighters were killed in
airstrikes in southeastern Afghan province of Paktika, officials said on
Monday.
Fifteen Taliban fighters were killed in an airstrike by NATO-led forces in
Barmal district of the province, late on Sunday, citing provincial police
chief, Brigadier General Dawlat Khan Zadran, state-run Pajhwok Afghan News
(PAN) reported.
Bodies of the dead militants were still lying on the ground at the site of
the attack, he said, adding that the Afghan forces recovered arms from the
scene.
In another incident, said PAN further, five Taliban fighters were killed
during a joint operation by Afghan and NATO-led troops in the Omna district of
the province, on Sunday.
A spokesman for the 203rd Thunder Military Corps, Maj. Haroon told PAN that
about five Taliban were also detained during the operation.
Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, expressed his "unawareness" of the
Barmal operation and also denied the killing and arrest of fighters by
security forces, reported the PAN. (end)
